Things to keep in mind before buying a motorcycle?

Are there alternatives to drive a motorcycle without having to buy one?

Some people do not want or can't buy a motorcycle, but still would like to enjoy driving once in a while. In addition to buying and having a motorcycle of your own, there are other alternatives to live biker experiences whenever you want.

The concept of a rental car is well known, but few people know that it is also possible to rent motorcycles between individuals or specialized companies. With HertzRide, motorcycle rental has entered a new dimension.

What should I keep in mind when buying my first motorcycle?

The choice of a first motorcycle is an important step. Your first motorcycle is likely to match your newly released driving license. Or maybe you have been driving for years, but you still hadn't decided to jump into this exciting new hobby that is motorcycling. Your first motorcycle is the one that will get you into the curious world of traffic, will take you along the biker routes that you always wanted to travel and will accompany you, perhaps, in your day to day. Without a doubt, your first motorcycle should be a pleasant and comfortable vehicle to drive. The more you drive it, the more control you will have over it.

THE MOTORCYCLE OF YOUR DREAMS
Since you started your love for motorcycles, you have dreamed of having a BMW or a Harley-Davidson. However, you cannot always or should buy the motorcycle of your dreams when it comes to your first motorcycle. Beginner bikers who immediately go for the prettiest or most expensive motorcycle often make the situation turn against them. Your first motorcycle should be very simple to drive. If the bike of your dreams is uncomfortable or difficult to drive, then it is probably not the best option. Believe us, the fun and sensations of riding a motorcycle that suits you like a glove far outweigh the fact of riding a seemingly pretty motorcycle. If you are not sure which motorcycle will suit your needs, you can always rent several different models to do driving tests for a few days.

How should be your first motorcycle?

First of all, your first motorcycle should be light enough that you feel that you control it, and not the other way around. If you are learning to drive, keep in mind that it could happen that your motorcycle falls off on occasion or scratches itself. Therefore, you have to think if you want to buy a new vehicle or rather a second-hand one until you feel 100% comfortable. The motorcycle of your dreams will be the one that takes you where you need to go.

Frequently  asked questions:

Can I buy an imported motorcycle?

There are several reasons to buy a motorcycle abroad. The most common is because its price is cheaper, or because that model is not sold in our country. If this is your case and you want to buy a motorcycle in another country, keep in mind that you cannot simply drive it in your country without doing any other paperwork. Importing a motorcycle has some associated extra costs, which could increase the final price.

HOW TO ENTER A FOREIGN MOTORCYCLE TO SPAIN?
To import a motorcycle bought abroad in Spain you should start by verifying its approval password. If the motorcycle was manufactured before the Constitution of the European Union, it may not have an appropriate homologation password. In this case, you must take it to an approval workshop to be associated with one. If the motorcycle already has a European approval password, you simply have to go to a DGT headquarters with all the documentation of the motorcycle to make the registration change.

WHAT ABOUT TAXES?
If you buy the motorcycle from a company in the European Union, you must pay VAT, provided the motorcycle does not exceed 6000 km or is less than 6 months old. If you buy the motorcycle from a private individual, you will not have to pay VAT, but you will be responsible for the Property Transfer Tax. This tax varies according to the autonomous communities and can amount between 4% and 5% of the value of the motorcycle.

For VAT purposes, it may be worth driving the motorcycle a few more kilometers before bringing it and registering it in Spain.
