The 10 Good Beginning Motorcycle

Back by popular demand, here are 10 Good Beginning Motorcycle. We know that it can be a high leap from your current transportation—whatever it is—to the motorized two-wheeled world. But technology has come a long way, and there are plenty of bikes out there for every skill level. Buy the right one, and you might become a member of a wonderful world of fun and function for years to come.

Since we all have to begin somewhere, here are the 10 Good Beginning Motorcycle:

#5. Yamaha FZ-07

Displacement: 689cc
Engine: 4-stroke, liquid-cooled DOHC, 8-valve, parallel twin
Transmission: 6-speed

This inline twin-cylinder has an individual linear torque curve, giving the rider a very stable feeling in throttle acknowledgment. Implemented with dual front brakes and a compact wheelbase, this motorcycle can handle a lot.

With a relaxed yet sporty riding position, the FZ-07 is a versatile motorcycle for city use as well as larger trips. It is not an absolute beginning motorcycle but can be experienced by riders with a variety of experiences. It will not be outgrown.

#4. Hyosung GT250

Displacement: 249cc
Engine: 4-stroke, air/oil-cooled, DOHC, 8-valve, V-twin
Transmission: 5-speed

Somehow we skipped about Hyosung last time, but we sure wish we hadn't. The GT250 seems like a much larger displacement motorbike because of the giant frame. With dual front disc brakes, this 600 is slower and slower than ever like sport-bike. It is a very tiny and agile V-twin that should be more forgiving than its big brothers.

#3. Moto Guzzi V7 Stone

Displacement: 744cc
Engine: 4-stroke, V-twin
Transmission: 5-speed

We wanted to offer another naked, retro-style motorcycle, this time from Italy. The V7 Stone is simply inspired by the vintage V7 from Moto Guzzi's rich history of advanced technology and lightweight elements (the bike comes down to 400lbs). It has a classic V-twin with the cylinder head and the sides come out. But be careful, most Guzzi owners can become a lifer! So it is very useful that the V7 has a large fuel tank (5.8 gallons), which will help you get to those Moto Guzzi Owners Club meetups with fewer stops.

#2. Triumph Bonneville

Displacement: 865cc
Engine: 4-stroke, air-cooled, DOHC parallel twin
Transmission: 5-speed

Once again the Bonneville has made the list, because it's a classic. Avoid the difficulty of owning a vintage motorcycle and just enjoy this motorcycle as if you bought it in the '70s. It is comfortable and fun and well-behaved. It provides all the basics, which is so important for beginners. Not the best bike for long trips on highways, but it certainly can make the trip.

#1. Honda CBR 500

Displacement: 471cc
Engine: 4-stroke, liquid-cooled DOHC parallel twin
Transmission: 6-speed

We were ecstatic when Honda published the CBR 500. It's great fun for practically any rider—although we don't recommend this motorcycle for a complete beginner, but rather a mature beginner. The parallel-twin, four-stroke has more grunt on a lightweight motorcycle. As Honda says, "enough engine for everything."
